Bio: The scope of my educational career involves teaching ages from two to ninety-two. I believe all learners, no matter what age or socioeconomic background, have the ability to learn if instruction provided plays to the learner’s style of learning. I spent the first ten years of my educational career teaching adults computer skills, to include senior citizens how to use the Internet to connect with loved ones. For the past twelve years as a Technology Director and Instructor, I have designed, developed and implemented technology plans, which focus on creating a stronger and more effective interactive learning environment for PreK-12th grade students. Through my passion to educate adults, as well as K-12 students, I have conducted over 500 professional development sessions, been a presenter at both state and national conferences, and mentored faculty, parents, and community members on the impact technology has when integrated effectively into the curriculum. I am currently a certified Google Apps Educator and Google Apps Admin.For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher. From the moment I became one, I knew this was what I was created to do. I have taught for 24 years, 1st-5th. I am currently assisting elementary schools implement technology. In the last few years, I have discovered the power of being a connected educator. That connection led me to discover augmented reality for the first time. My experience with augmented reality is that I have found that it adds to the learning experience. It engages students and helps them to “see” more clearly. I am hoping to be part of the group of educators that brings this to more classrooms, not just for “how cool it is”, but with intention and purpose. I believe if we work together to share resources and ideas, we can see AR as one of the best tools to enhance our classrooms.

Your Favorite Quiver Resources and Why? The resource that sticks out to me the most is the Quiver augmented reality trigger, Circle Dot Day. This is my favorite resource due to all of the possible cross-curricular standards and objectives that can be taught using the one tool. Examples of my previous uses are as follows: in college and career readiness as the “calling card” for student resumes, patterns and design recognition, character education as an effective way to communicate a kind personality, math with preschoolers for counting circles, video editing and QR codes for recorded audio to accompany the trigger, foreign languages as a method to integrate simple vocabulary, physical education to jump like the bouncing balls on the screen, and language arts by integrating parts of a story from Dot Day and writing your own “mark”.

What is your favorite teaching moment? Anytime a student comes back later in life to me and tells me, “I was able to ….. because you taught me.” There is no greater gift than to enable a child to achieve! It warms my heart listening to how a skills or lesson we did together either helped them in a college class or they decided to start a career in technology because of experiencing a lesson and suddenly finding their calling in life.

Why do you use Augmented Reality in your classroom? The trends of how augmented reality is revolutionizing the medical industry are the most exciting. A current example is the military and their use of AR in medicine. Medical and paramedical providers, using specific eye-wear, view triggers within medical simulation models or human cadavers to access diagnostics, treatment algorithms, or specialized trauma care protocols through synchronous and asynchronous applications. Without augmented reality, the on-site medical attendee couldn’t provide the care needed for the patient. How does this example feed into K-12 education? As educators, we must provide the future ready skills students need as problem-solvers and innovators. If students are exposed early in their educational career of how to be consumers and creators of augmented reality content, the trends and possibilities are heightened exponentially.

Why did you want to become a Quiver Ambassador? I have used and loved the Quiver product for many years in my teaching career. Quiver, through its ever-growing online downloadable content, provides any educator a very simple and easy tool to implement augmented reality into their classroom. Quiver products immerse the child into the lesson by way of fun and creative content. The ease of use with three simple steps of print, color, and scan creates a technology-integrated lesson the student remembers the targeted curriculum objective.

How do you share Quiver’s resources with other educators? At the beginning of a school year, I complete a staff development session to model how easy it is to use AR triggers for technology integrated immersive lessons. Because the Quiver trigger database is easy to use and filled with content, teachers are able during the session to explore, find and print the desired content, which meets the curriculum objective for the lesson. Once we do some creative coloring, the teachers become the learners when they place the device over the trigger and watch it come to life! As a group, we brainstorm all the different teaching ideas using Quiver AR. Once the session has concluded, a resource notebook that includes all the printed Quiver triggers is provided as a resource. During the school year, teachers browse the notebook for further lesson ideas. Through the use of twitter as a collaborative tool, you can find additional lesson ideas of how other educators are using AR triggers throughout the world.

Have you presented Quiver’s resources at a conference or workshop? Quiver’s resources have been shared in numerous school and district professional development seminars I have conducted regarding how to use augmented reality in the classroom. The graphics, easy of use, content available, and the additional screen provided creation tools, make Quiver a popular tool for technology integration training. Whether the PD session is 15 minutes or an hour, Quiver provides a quick solution to teachers to implement technology. A lesson can be prepared, customized, and implemented using a Quiver trigger within a very short period of time. At any workshop or staff development session, Quiver is always a hit to introduce augmented reality!

Materials Needed for Lesson/Activity:


  • Lesson can be adapted for lower grades (K-3)
  • Explore Career Clusters to determine match of personality type to career
  • Color the augmented reality trigger to match career interest and student personality
  • Choose a segment of the Dot Day trigger and take a picture and video using the Quiver app on-screen tools
  • Upload Quiver picture and video to Google Drive and make sharing options public
  • Using Google Shortner, create QR code that will be placed on the College Application form
  • Insert Quiver picture of the created Dot Day trigger into College Application form
  • Insert QR code of Quiver trigger video into the picture section of the College Application square
  • Complete the College Application form
  • Define why the responses to the College Application should be unique to each individual

Notes, Suggestions, Tips, etc…

Extension activity: (Academic Enrichment) – Students will insert the Quiver picture taken of the live AR Dot Day trigger inside the Quiver app into the College Application. Using additional AR creation tools, students will provide narration of how and why they chose to color and design the Dot Day trigger as a symbol of their abilities.
